I’ve always thought that Spring is a time full of promise, and events this month in Romsey will bring a new energy to your year so far. March will be music to your ears with performances in locations across Romsey and a variety of genres for all music lovers.
Music
The Abbey will be hosting a series of six recitals on Tuesdays in March and April. Lead by Professor David Owen Norris, Head of Classical Performance and Professor of Music at the University of Southampton, his students will perform the first four recitals.
The Southampton Concert Orchestra will also be appearing this month at the Abbey, accompanied by the Romsey Choral Society. For something a bit different, village harmony performing ensemble ‘Northern Harmony’ will be performing at Bramshaw Village Hall, bringing their unique sound from the USA to Romsey as part of their European tour.
Treat yourself to a Sunday afternoon out with ‘Sparkling Tea and Concert’ at Houghton Lodge on 24 March 2.30pm.
Exhibitions
If you haven’t had a chance to catch the Thelwell exhibition at Mottisfont, there’s still time to take in Laughter and Landscapes. The exhibition (running until 22nd April) has some favourite images on show, such as the iconic Penelope and her pony Kipper. Whilst at Mottisfont, you can also see the Caravan Gallery which starts 9 March and runs till July, with an outdoor exhibition of 32 quirky and colourful portraits taken in the famous rose gardens.
Performances
Goodnight Mr Tom, Grease and one man show ‘One man, One Tuesday’ are all appearing at the Plaza Theatre this month. The theatre will also be hosting its ‘Sensory Experiences’ with Romsey Dementia Action Group, for people living with Dementia and their carers. These sessions occur every 3rd Friday of the month.
The community cinema at the Town Hall offers a new film twice a month, this month watch King of Thieves or The Bookshop.
Markets, fairs and shows
Local spring fairs and sales at locations around town can be found on our ‘Other events’ page, and are great for supporting local organisations. For something a bit bigger, try the Hampshire Farmers Markets that take place in town monthly. Travel a bit further afield for the Andover Artisan Market on the 17 March, or if like Paddington Bear you’re a marmalade fan, the Michelmarsh Marmalade Festival takes place at The Barns in Michelmarsh on 23 March.
A little bit of France comes to Romsey on the 31 March, the French Food and Brocante/Flea market will be held around the Cornmarket and Town Hall, featuring stalls with authentic French traders selling hot and cold food, antiques, collectables, jewellery, copper and brass items stamps and lots more!
Coming up in April
There’s no slowing down on the lead up to Easter either, with markets to browse and music and energetic theatre performances to get your toes tapping.
Get on the move; The Caravan and Motorhomes Show returns to Broadlands in April. The three day event will have more than 500 new and used vehicles on show to help inspire travels and road trips – just make sure your journeys bring you back to Romsey!
